My Grandma's Silent Movie Star Collection - From North Dakota to Hollywood

Around 1916-1919, my grandmother Agnes Williams was the piano player at one of North Dakota's first Nickelodeon Theaters.

A tremendous fan of early Hollywood pictures, Agnes wrote letters to every actor of the era— and they often replied to her fan notes, enclosing a signed photographic print of themselves.

There are names we still recognize today: Charlie Chaplin, the Gish sisters, William S. Hart, Theda Bara.

But virtually all these early picture stars were huge celebrities in their period, and you will find their "star" on the cement of Hollywood Blvd today.
