My daughter Aretha and I have written our first book: Mother/Daughter Sex Advice.
Remember back in 2010, when Aretha and I started a column at Jezebel.com?
It was insane-- readers flooded us with explicit dilemmas about sexual pleasures and disasters, body issues, dating, relationships, and young marriage.
Our answers... well, first of all, they cracked us up. Then we got serious. The reaction was everything from applause to tar and feathers.
Who can forget:

“I Have A Tendency To Throw Up Every Time My Boyfriend Comes In My Mouth”

We were 52 and 19 when we started writing together. We had ground rules-- like hand signals when things got TMI. We're both private people— there is no way we would've discussed these things about ourselves.
But this was about OTHER people. —a brilliant way to not step on each other's toes. We each took writing turns with the same questions, and that’s when I found out how strongly Aretha felt about subjects we'd never discussed before.
Here I thought I was being a "counselor" to countless women and men I didn't know— but it actually affected the two of us, more than anyone.
Mothers have always cautioned daughters about sex. The typical chat is supposed to be about menstruation, pregnancy, disease-control. —Worthy topics to be sure! But there is a LOT more to sex and love and adventure than THAT.
This is our "Beyond-Our-Bodies-Ourselves" moment. It's time sex-positive families got a chance to talk about what really comes up in life! -- it isn't simple or moralistic.
