Crisis at the Blog Factory! Light a Match!

Img_6153My apologies for my quietude here: I'm madly editing the next volume of Best American Erotica 2008 for the finish line, and I need a clone to keep things cooking on the blog-stove!

I turn the BAE manuscript over to my publishers in April, even though it comes out next February. This month, between taxes and book deadlines, is my deadliest.

I think this Sunday I'm going to have a beach bonfire to scream, "I'M FINISHED, you hear me, FINISHED!" — you might hear me miles away.

I remember when we decided to start "unschooling" our daughter in the year 2000. We had a big bonfire for all the insipid  homework busy-sheets she'd been given the first few weeks of 5th grade. That was some of the best fun ever. Her teacher had warned the class that no one was allowed to read a book over 100 pages, and that he'd discipline anyone who tried otherwise. What a great day it was to burn that sucker down.

Have you ever had a good-old fashioned burning of something that needed to turn to ash? Do tell!

Open Thread: Global Steam Episode

Girly_card I finally have a bunch more "free tickets" to listen to my In Bed radio show on Audible.com.

These ones are much cuter, 'cause they have a fetching picture of me on them and the name of my show.  I call them my "Girly Cards."

If you want some, send me an email— susie at susiebright dot com— with your SNAIL MAIL address, and I'll post them right away. (Put "Girly" in the subject line)!

...Have you seen the Al Gore movie? If I'm already are an ardent ecologist and need "no convincing," should I see it anyway?

...Meanwhile, I'm hooked on previous DVD seasons of Rescue Me. Denis Leary? Yes. Franco? Yes. "New Mike"? Yes. But I think the new woman firefighter (remember, I'm only on season 1) is a snooze. Does she get better?

...Now that the CDC has approved the HPV vaccine, when will we be seeing it in our local doctor's office?

...Bitch | Lab, one of our beloved commenters here, has a brilliant blog of her own. She'll be hosting the 17th Carnival of Feminists on June 21. The deadline for submissions is June 20. You can use the form at the Carnival of Feminists blog or send them to BL at carnival@pulpculture.org. Themes for this Carnival include today's definition of "the personal is political," militant mouthiness, and a dessert of sex-positive feminism.

What else is going on? I'm getting ready to go to SheShamans next week.

Open Thread: Homer Simpson Hoo-Hoo Art

Homertat1 This woman has a tattoo of Homer Simpson on her hoo-hoo.

Paul Krassner emailed it to me, so I must defer all questions except to say that his Subject line was: "Signs of the Apocalypse."

Thoughts? Further Thoughts?

Feel free to change the subject, and yak about whatever's on your mind. All Questions Guaranteed.

Open Thread: Shall We?

Needle_thread I've noticed that many blogs I enjoy have an "open thread," where readers can initiate any any topic or comment of their choice. Let's try it!

I, for one, want to mention that one-third of J.T. Leroy, Inc. has confessed his culpability. It's Geoffrey Knoop, Laura Albert's husband. I'm sure you'll be shocked to hear that they broke up in December, after things started to unravel— and are now involved in a custody dispute over their child, and the money that's left.

Open Threads are for little things you want to mention, question, recommend, gnash or gush over... Stuff that you wish I would bring up! I'll try opening a new one up every week and see how it goes.

It's perfect for the JT Leroy blip, because I wanted to update you all, without having to descend into utter madness again.

Your turn!

Here's my Comment Policy and How-To, in case you want to learn more!
