LECTURE & CLASSROOM TOPICS
The Politics of Sexual Representation
Bright looks at the history of erotic representation, spectatorship, and the debate surrounding sexual pictures and words. The lecture examines what goes on behind the scenes where our sexual messages and media are created – from Madison Ave. and Hollywood to the sex industry itself. Bright discusses the political groups – commercial, feminist, gay, religious, and sexually marginalized – who seek to influence these worlds.
Reading, Writing and Rethinking Erotica
A workshop for students to develop, write, and market erotic literature. Bright leads students through character, writing and editing exercises, as well as describing the art of creating erotic aesthetics and values. Based on her critically acclaimed book, How to Write a Dirty Story, Bright also gives her students a pertinent history of erotic publishing in America, and opportunities for erotic writers today.
The Sexual State of the Union Address
Regardless of who is in the White House or what media channel we tune to, sexual politics in America are the most contentious and provocative issues of the day. Bright addresses the current status quo of sexuality in the nation’s bedrooms and boardrooms, from their most personal to the most global consequences.
Safe Sex for Sex Maniacs
Bright’s tongue-in-cheek title for her workshop on sexual health, personal risk, and public policy reflect her conviction that safer sex practices can only be embraced when the practitioners articulate their own sexual philosophy and self-interest. Bright guides her audience through the questions and real- life scenarios they will encounter when they take their sexual health and self-determination seriously.

PRAISE FROM SUSIE BRIGHT EVENTS
“Ms. Bright’s talk was everything we expected and more. She speaks about the issues of sexuality as it is currently staged on our ideological horizon. Her presentation was direct, honest, intelligent, and amusing – a rare combination of qualities in any lecturer, and one that was particularly appreciated on our campus. The impression she left us with was that of admirable intellectual generosity. As the principal administrator of our Center, Susie Bright’s talk was our most successful event so far.”
Director, Center for Humanities and the Arts, University of Colorado
“Susie Bright’s teaching for our department has been simultaneously provocative, challenging, and rigorous. Her students rave about the quality of both her preparation, her ideas, and her focused use of media, lecture, and discussion.”
Chair, Community Studies, University of California, Santa Cruz
“Susie Bright presented the best writing workshop I have taken for any kind of writing, not just erotic literature…She teaches with exceptional grace and humor.”
