Welcome to our 'nightmare before Christmas.' In mid-November, just as we were gearing up for a busy holiday season, our natural (also known as ‘organic’ or ‘non-paid’) search rankings vanished from Google’s search results, resulting in an instantaneous 30% drop in sales...
One of the theories being tossed around is that this Google change might be an attempt to “clean up” adult material on the internet. According to this blog posting last week from, Dude, Where’s My Porn: “If you Google for 'porn' today, you may not find it. That’s because this past weekend saw a huge shake=up in the online porn world...
I have no idea what they're up to, but Google's hubris-laden corporate change from fighting-for-democracy-and-a-free-Internet to a sellout pigfest has been lightening quick, hasn't it? They've turned a galaxy of good will into toxic sludge in record time.
I still treasure the whiny letter I last received from Google's AdSense rep when they denied me admission to their blogger-advertising program, because my site was deemed "unsafe for families."
When I pressed them to point out anything on my site that couldn't be found in a provocative issue of The New Yorker, they admitted that 'adult' language and discussion were okay if you had millions of hits in traffic. Anything less, though, and you're a menace to society.
In retrospect, I'm glad I didn't open my blog up to all their bad juju in the form of Viagra pitches, get-rich-quick schemes, and "diet aids." I wouldn't want my family exposed to that!
Meanwhile, if you are bugging Santa for that special fur-lined sling or vibrating horned ducky, sold with feminist flair and intelligent advice, I recommend Babeland,Good Vibrations, and Blowfish. They're competitors, all a little different, but each a superb alternative to the usual "adult store" crap. Make your dearest relatives happy today!
