Film footage shot on a San Francisco streetcar a few days before the Great Quake of 1906.
Most of what you see here... collapsed.
Market Street is unmistakeable isn't it? The destination of the Ferry Building clock at the harbor pulls you all the way down the line. I love looking at how people move and the complete absence of "traffic" rules. No signs, no lights.
I enjoy Market Street today, as well. I have a memory from when I was little and my mother told me a lady couldn't go downtown on Market without wearing gloves. I have some photos somewhere of that rule in action!
